Key Stage 5 - Centre Assessed Grades

In 2021 the Government declared that examinations would be cancelled, and students would be awarded grades according to the work they have completed in school.

Last year, teachers were asked to submit Centre Assessed Grades (CAGs) that reflected the grade they believed the student was working at. This year, the terms CAG and TAG (Teacher Assessed Grades) have both been used by the Government and in Newspapers. They are different names for the same thing. However, we will use the term CAG as we feel it reflects the process better - the grade we submit for your child is not the grade a teacher has given, but the grade created from a range of evidence generated at the school.

Objective of these pages

These pages are designed with two objectives:

  • To ensure that you understand the process involved in creating the CAG grades.
  • To help you support your child so together we can ensure they achieve the grades they are capable of.

How will the process of completing the Centre Assessed Grades work?

Our plan is that each student will be assessed on a range of evidence based on their representative past performance, but also on up to three uniform assessments conducted after Easter. This is to ensure that those students who have made progress since the last assessment have an opportunity to show this.

We will then look at this range of evidence and formulate the grade we feel the student is working at.

For more details on how we will obtain the evidence and calculate the grade, please see the following page:

How will we create the Centre Assessed Grade?

When will the assessments be, and what will they be on?

We have published a page showing all of the assessments we have arranged.

The assessments are between 30 - 50 minutes in length, and will be conducted during  lessons. Our teachers will prepare the students in the lesson preceding the assessment to help them ensure that all content assessed has been taught. Each assessment has the date and lesson it will be conducted, as well as what the assessment will be on and where to find revision materials.

If your son/daughter has Exam Access Arrangements (EAA) for the upcoming summer assessments; these entitlements will be given to the students.

What is the appeals process?

We hope that you will not need this as you will be happy with the grade we have submitted. However, for details of how the appeals process will work please see this page:
