Reading Passport
For all new Year 7s and Parents from the English Department
Dear Parents and Year 7,
We are really looking forward to meeting year 7s in the new school year but before we do, we want to encourage students to continue reading over the summer holidays.
Reading is a skill for life and reading for pleasure helps students in all their subjects by building vocabulary and reading stamina.
Below, you can download a passport to record reading over the summer holidays. We would ask parents to sign or initial the card for each whole book read.
There is a list of suggested authors/titles although students may also select non-fiction books. We hope the book recommendations will help students to select new books/authors to read.
Students will earn 10 ADDS points for each book read. If students read 5 books over the summer holidays, they could earn 50 ADDS points on the first day back and be well on their way to earning their Bronze award. Students can either bring in their reading passport when they come into school or send an electronic copy to the Deputy Head of English for KS3, Mrs Nicholson: v.nicholson@arnewood.hants.sch.uk.
Enjoy the summer and keep reading!
